Whole Foods’ Berry Chantilly cake has become a fan-favorite since it was released in 2002
Whole Foods’ beloved Berry Chantilly cake is taking a new and sippable form.
The grocery store’s dessert is reimagined as a Bery Chantilly latte, available now through Tuesday, July 1. The beverage can be ordered at Whole Foods Market locations with a coffee bar.
The cake with a cult-like following has been sold since 2002. It is a layered vanilla cake with almond-mascarpone cream frosting and berries.
The Whole Foods team worked through a “variety of syrups” to find the perfect flavor profile before arriving on the finish product which consists of strawberry and almond syrups. The new beverage is available hot or iced.
In the fall, Whole Foods attempted to change the decades-old dessert recipe but it was a short-lived adjustment.
Lisa Younes’ viral TikTok video from Sept. 21 claimed that the original Berry Chantilly cake slices were being discontinued after speaking to a Whole Foods employee. Other creators confirmed the rumor and declared that the $5 slices would be made with frozen cake and frosting with jam filling in place of the fresh fruit.
The change was meant to standardize the cake slices sold in stores so customers would “have the same high-quality experience” at all locations, a spokesperson told The New York Times at the time. But, within a week of the change, the retailer announced that they were reverting back to the original recipe.
