Three members of the American pop rock band Imagine Dragons have arrived in Hanoi to prepare for their performance at the VinFuture Science and Technology Awards on Friday evening.
The band’s flight landed at Noi Bai International Airport around 9:10 p.m. on Thursday. Despite the long journey, band members—guitarist Wayne Sermon, lead vocalist and band leader Dan Reynolds, and bassist Ben McKee—were visibly excited for their first visit to Vietnam. They waved and smiled at fans while exiting the airport.
Throughout their exit from the airport, the trio made a strong impression with their friendly demeanor and casual, active fashion. According to their schedule, the band will experience Hanoi’s culture and cuisine before performing at the VinFuture Science and Technology Awards at the Ho Guom Theater.
The following morning, the band will travel to Ho Chi Minh City for rehearsals ahead of their performance at the 8Wonder Winter international music festival, which takes place at the Vinhomes Grand Park mega-complex in District 9 on Sunday. Imagine Dragons is set to perform a set of their hit songs here in front of an audience of around 20,000 people in Ho Chi Minh City. Fans on online forums are hoping to hear live renditions of “Radioactive,” “Demons,” “Believer,” “Bad Liar,” and “Thunder.”
Formed in 2008, Imagine Dragons first gained recognition with the release of their 2012 single “It’s Time,” followed by a series of hits including “Radioactive” and “Demons.” Notably, “Radioactive” spent 87 weeks on the Billboard Hot 100, setting a record for chart longevity that was previously held by American singer-songwriter Jason Mraz’s 2008 single “I’m Yours,” until it was later surpassed by Canadian singer-songwriter The Weeknd’s 2019 hit “Blinding Lights.”
Named the “biggest rock hit of the year” by the American magazine Rolling Stone, the song also earned Imagine Dragons two Grammy nominations for Record of the Year and Best Rock Performance.
The VinFuture Science and Technology Awards are held annually, with American pop singer Katy Perry performing at last year’s event.
