Jennifer Lawrence Was ‘Very Excited’ About Having Baby No. 2, Says Source: ‘Perfect Timing’ (Exclusive)

The insider tells PEOPLE the ‘No Hard Feelings’ star is a “fun mom” to 3-year-old son Cy and her newborn

Jennifer Lawrence is settling into life as a mom of two.

Following the recent birth of Lawrence and husband Cooke Maroney‘s second baby, a source tells PEOPLE that the Don’t Look Up star is “doing well.”

“Her first child was born in Los Angeles. She recently gave birth to her second child in N.Y.C. She’s doing well,” the source tells PEOPLE of Lawrence, 34. “She was very excited about the pregnancy. She thought it was the perfect timing. She was very active and felt good.”

“She’s a fun mom and loves outings with her son,” the insider adds. “She’s also super protective. She wants her children to have as much privacy as possible.”

Jennifer Lawrence Welcomes Baby No. 2 with Husband Cooke Maroney

A representative for the actress did not immediately respond to PEOPLE’s request for comment.

The Hunger Games alum announced she was expecting her second child with Maroney, 40, via a Vogue Instagram post and article in October 2024.

“Congratulations are in order for Jennifer Lawrence! The Oscar-winning actor will be welcoming her second child with art gallerist husband Cooke Maroney,” the magazine wrote in the caption of the post, adding that representatives for Lawrence had confirmed the happy news to the outlet.

The couple, who wed in October 2019, are already parents to son Cy, 3, whom they welcomed in February 2022.

Since welcoming her son Cy, Lawrence has approached her career differently.

“There’s no squeezing when you have a baby,” she told Cameron Diaz in a 2023 conversation for Interview magazine. “There’s just home, and it’s the best. It definitely helps weed out projects: ‘Yes. No. Yes. No. Yes. No. Is this worth being away from my child for half the day?’”

The mom of two has brought her signature candidness to the topic of motherhood, particularly her initial fears and doubts about being a mom. Speaking to Vogue, Lawrence said that before welcoming Cy, she was worried about whether she would be able to love him as much as her cat.

“It’s so scary to talk about motherhood,” she said. “Because it’s so different for everybody. If I say, ‘It was amazing from the start,’ some people will think, ‘It wasn’t amazing for me at first,’ and feel bad.”

Lawrence continued, “Fortunately I have so many girlfriends who were honest … So I felt so prepared to be forgiving. I remember walking with one of my best friends at, like, nine months, and being like, ‘Everyone keeps saying that I will love my baby more than my cat. But that’s not true. Maybe I’ll love him as much as my cat?’
