John Travolta Eats $1,000 Pulp Fiction-Inspired Steak Served in a Briefcase Alongside Celeb Friends — See the Photos!

Travolta’s 1994 cult classic film inspired Miami’s Papi Steak to create the dish, served in a rhinestone-encrusted briefcase

Forget the “Royale with Cheese” — Pulp Fiction star John Travolta has a $1,000 steak served in a rhinestoned-encrusted briefcase on his mind.

Travolta, 71, stopped by Papi Steak in Miami on Saturday, March 29, to try the restaurant’s Pulp Fiction-inspired “Beef Case,” a raw 55 oz. Australian Wagyu tomahawk steak presented in the elaborate briefcase.

The dish is a nod to a famous scene in Quentin Tarantino‘s 1994 film Pulp Fiction, in which Travolta and Samuel L. Jackson’s characters are tasked with finding a briefcase, though the contents of the case are never revealed. At one point, Vincent Vega (Travolta) opens the briefcase and is visibly pleased, as what’s inside is left up to the viewers’ imagination.

Per TMZ, Travolta reenacted the moment — complete with his approving head nod — when he was served the steak at Papi Steak, accompanied by restaurant co-owners Dave Grutman and David “Papi” Einhorn. Rapper Quavo and film producer and former Vanderpump Rules star Randall Emmett, who was celebrating his birthday, are also seen at the table in a handful of pictures of the moment posted by the restaurant on Instagram.

Emmett — who recently directed Travolta and Quavo’s new film High Rollers — also shared pictures of Travolta receiving the massive steak on his Instagram Stories.

The contents of the film’s briefcase have long been a source of speculation for fans. In the restaurant’s post, it shares that Einhorn has long believed he had the answer. “I always knew it was a steak,” he said.

At the restaurant, Travolta sat with his dining companions around him as he opened the case in a similar manner that Vincent does in the film.

Fans’ theories on the contents of the briefcase include money, jewels and even “the holy grail.” Some think it could even be the the actual soul of the film’s villain/anti-hero Marsellus Wallace, played by Ving Rhames.

Tarantino has never given a straight answer as to what’s in the briefcase, saying he purposely left it ambiguous.

“It’s up to you to figure out what’s in there,” Tarantino said in an interview with Charlie Rose in 2009. “Now that’s your movie.”
