Polish community to be celebrated in exhibition

Streetlife Museum will host an exhibition that will celebrate the history of the Polish community in Hull

The culture and history of Hull’s Polish community will be celebrated as part of a new art exhibition, officials have announced.

The Streetlife Museum will host the exhibition to honour over 100 years of the community living in the area.

Hull Culture and Leisure said “Czesc Hull to my!: Hi Hull”, will be presented in Polish and English and will open on 29 March until 29 June.

It is part of Hull Museums and Ferens Art Gallery’s new 2025 programme, which will also showcase stories of Greek mythology.

Polish schools and communities in the area helped the museum curate the exhibition which will explore traditions, food, dress and lifestyle.

The Ferens Art Gallery’s new programme will begin on 14 February with “Sirens: Women and the Sea”, featuring the works of famous artists John William Waterhouse, Evelyn De Morgan and Edward Burne-Jones.

The programme also features the Festival of Archaeology and Colliderfest, a new four-day science and arts festival.

Councillor Rob Pritchard said: “With the first-class free facilities we’re lucky to have at Hull Museums, I already know it will prove to be an incredibly popular year for residents and visitors.”

Jane Avison, Hull Museums and Gallery Manager added: “Following a really successful 2024, we can’t wait to get started with this year’s fantastic programme.”

Hull Museums and Ferens Art Gallery are open Monday to Saturday from 10:00 until 16:30 GMT and Sunday 11:00 to 1600. Entry is free.
