SHINee’s Minho to star in play ‘Rendez-vous’

Singer and actor Choi Min-ho is set to expand his career in theater with the play “Rendezvous.”

According to SM Entertainment, Friday, Choi has been confirmed to play the role of Taeseop, a rocket research developer, in “Rendezvous,” continuing his active presence on stage. The play tells the story of two individuals weighed down by life’s burdens who meet by chance and heal each other’s wounds as they grow closer.

Taeseop, portrayed by Choi, is a character struggling with obsessive-compulsive disorder due to childhood trauma. He becomes entangled with Jihee (played by Kim Ha-ri), the daughter of a Chinese restaurant owner whose food he orders routinely. Through their interactions, he gradually overcomes his fear of change, a journey that Choi is expected to bring to life with intricate emotional acting.

The production is drawing attention for its unique stage design, which resembles a fashion show runway with a rectangular structure and a moving treadmill. Without any off-stage exits, the two actors will drive the entire 100-minute performance, offering audiences an up-close experience of Choi’s energetic and immersive presence.

Choi previously debuted in theater with “Waiting for Waiting for Godot,” in which he played Val. His performance was met with critical acclaim, and the production achieved a sold-out run, solidifying his status as a rising star in the theater scene. Expectations are high for the diverse charms he will bring to “Rendezvous.”

Meanwhile, “Rendezvous,” featuring Choi Minho in a fresh new role, will be staged at the Jayu Theater in the Seoul Arts Center from Apr. 5 to May 11.
