The Future of prestige: Genesis GV90 steps into the spotlight

Genesis is turning heads with the upcoming GV90, a flagship all-electric SUV that blends Korean artistry, cutting-edge technology, and full-size luxury. With recent sightings revealing more of its sleek design, the GV90 is shaping up to be one of the most anticipated luxury EVs on the horizon.

A new chapter in Genesis’ luxury story

Genesis, Hyundai Motor Group’s premium marque, is on the brink of redefining the electric luxury SUV segment with its all-new GV90. The brand’s first full-size electric SUV has been spotted in testing with significantly less camouflage, offering the clearest view yet of what’s to come. With its imposing profile and signature design cues, the GV90 promises to be a flagship in every sense of the word.

The GV90 draws design inspiration from the Neolun Concept, revealed in early 2024. Named after Korea’s traditional moon-shaped porcelain jars, the Neolun symbolizes timeless elegance and cultural craftsmanship. Luc Donckerwolke, Chief Creative Officer of Genesis, described the concept as “the ultra-luxe vision of luxury SUVs,” a claim now coming to life in the GV90’s form.

Design: Minimalist elegance meets monumental presence

Even under partial wraps, the GV90’s silhouette tells a story of grand ambition. Compared to the smaller GV60 or Electrified GV70, the GV90 boasts a noticeably longer wheelbase and wider stance—design choices that emphasize spaciousness and road presence.

Spy shots reveal the vehicle’s signature Two-Line LED headlamps, a consistent Genesis design language, and subtle lines that mirror the refined simplicity of the Neolun concept. A clean profile, sculpted sides, and an upright rear suggest a strong focus on aerodynamics without compromising aesthetic appeal.

Of particular interest are the coach doors—a feature rarely seen in modern production vehicles. Genesis has confirmed that B-pillarless coach doors are now feasible with current technology, though they are expected to be reserved for higher trim levels. This feature alone could elevate the GV90 into a new league of opulence.

Tech-laden interior and next gen platform

While the exterior draws admiration, the interior of the GV90 is set to be a tech showcase. Genesis is expected to include a massive 24.6-inch curved infotainment display, seamlessly integrating vehicle controls, navigation, and entertainment. Anticipation is high for the level of software integration, which may surpass the current E-GMP-based EVs from Hyundai and Kia.

Underpinning the GV90 will be the new eM platform, Genesis’ next-generation EV architecture designed to replace the E-GMP platform. This new structure is expected to deliver improved range, faster charging, and enhanced autonomous capabilities. Notably, the GV90 will be the first Hyundai Motor Group model to debut on this advanced platform, marking a pivotal moment in the company’s electrification roadmap.

Delayed but worth the wait

Originally scheduled for production in late 2025, recent reports from The Korea Economic Daily suggest that the GV90’s rollout has been delayed to June 2026. The vehicle will be manufactured at Hyundai’s newly upgraded Ulsan plant, further underlining the strategic importance of this model.

Despite the delay, anticipation remains high. In South Korea, the GV90 is expected to start at around 100 million won (approximately $80,000), with high-end trims potentially exceeding 200 million won ($160,000). Given Genesis’ success in competing with traditional luxury giants, the GV90 is poised to push the brand further into ultra-premium territory.

Luxury with a Korean soul

The GV90 isn’t just a larger EV—it represents the culmination of Genesis’ design philosophy, cultural storytelling, and technological prowess. By merging high-end features like coach doors, minimalist styling, and next-gen EV architecture, Genesis is clearly aiming to carve out a space alongside top-tier electric SUVs from the likes of Mercedes-Benz and BMW.

As luxury automakers race toward full electrification, the GV90 may well become the gold standard for what a flagship electric SUV should be: elegant, innovative, and deeply rooted in identity.
